BAR & COURT ADMISSIONS
Ohio State Bar Association
Fran Tosi Ward is Of Counsel with our Firm and is a member of our criminal defense team. She has a specialized focus on representing students, fraternities/sororities, and athletes facing disciplinary issues at colleges and universities across Ohio. She has successfully defended numerous Title IX cases involving students accused of sexual misconduct on campus, as well as students facing discipline for allegedly violating codes of conduct relating to alcohol, drugs, theft, assault, and dishonest conduct. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Fran has also represented many students facing sanctions such as probation and suspension for allegedly violating policies relating to gatherings over ten and breaking isolation or quarantine.
In addition to Student Conduct and Title IX defense, Fran has a strong record defending juveniles and young adults charged with felonies and misdemeanors ranging from rape, sexual assault, gross sexual imposition, felonious assault, alcohol, drugs and theft. She also handles cases and advises clients on their eligibility and rights relating to Judicial Release in Ohio. A particular area of interest is defending and supporting juveniles and young adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Fran fights hard for these individuals and ensures that the judges and prosecutors are educated on the unique challenges they face in the courts and criminal justice system.
Fran is a zealous advocate who is passionate about supporting and advising students, juveniles and young adults facing overwhelming issues and consequences. Clients and their families need more than just an experienced attorney well versed in the law. They need someone that fights hard for justice and fairness, never gives up, someone who listens, truly cares, shows compassion and is available beyond the constraints of the workday. Fran treats her clients like one of her own children or family members. These are just some of the attributes that set Fran apart from others. She is also well respected amongst her peers, judges, prosecutors and campus administrators.
Fran graduated from The Ohio State University in 1987 with a B.S. in Business Administration (Marketing) and received her law degree in 1990 from Case Western Reserve University. In 1990, she began her career as a lawyer at Crabbe, Brown & James, LLP (formerly Crabbe, Brown Jones, Potts & Schmidt) in the civil defense practice. Before joining Maguire Schneider Hassay, LLP, Fran worked at The Koffel Law Firm specializing in criminal defense and defending students at universities and colleges throughout Ohio.
