Happy Anniversary, Debbie
This November, Debbie Rogers will celebrate her 34th anniversary with Maguire Schneider Hassay. At 76 years young, numbers don’t mean much to Debbie. But people do. They’re the reason she has stayed at MSH for more than three decades.
“I am very fortunate to work with such wonderful people who have so much integrity,” Debbie said. “Life throws a lot at you, both good and bad, and we’re always there to celebrate or support each other. We’re a team. Nobody is above anybody else.”
A former elementary school teacher, Debbie was hired by founding partner Patrick Maguire in 1990 to help out in his new law office. She began working just a few hours a day, but as the firm grew, so did her role. Today, she is the Office Manager, handling everything from hiring and firing to bookkeeping and paying bills. Her other unofficial title is “mom”.
“I’m the mom of the firm,” Debbie laughed. “I’ve been here longer than anyone else, so I try to set an example. I treat people the way I would want my daughter to be treated at work.”
When asked what she loves most about working at MSH, Debbie said it’s the relationships she has with the associates, many of whom have been there for 20 years or more. She also appreciates the opportunity to help make legal services accessible to more people.
“This is my job but also something that makes me feel like I’m contributing to society. I love that we administer a legal plan that brings justice to people who could not otherwise get it (Maguire Schneider Hassay is LegalShield’s provider law firm for the State of Ohio). It’s gratifying to be able to help.”
Debbie has two grown children, two grandchildren, five siblings (one brother and four sisters) and a mother who is turning 100 next month. She loves spending time with her family, but if you think she has plans to retire, think again.
“The time will come, but it’s not now. As long as I’m contributing, I’ll be here. I like to be busy. Working keeps you young. And I would miss being with these people. It feels great knowing you’re where you are supposed to be.”
