Myth!

If the house is in my name, I get to keep it in the divorce. Not necessarily! According to MSH Associate Brittany Gregorchik, “The house, regardless of whose name it is in, is the ‘marital home’ meaning where the couple resided as a married couple and therefore is marital property which gets divided in a divorce. This also happens with bank accounts. Despite a bank account being an individual account, if the funds were used to benefit the marriage or household, it is marital money and, therefore, gets divided in divorce.” Divorce can be complicated, but you don’t have to go it alone. Brittany and Team MSH can help guide you through this difficult time.
