Q&A with Theo:

Why did you join MSH?

I’m drawn to MSH’s mission to “make the law work for all.” I’ve witnessed the negative results that can flow from “going it alone” or simply taking the ostrich route (i.e., sticking your head in the sand). MSH is well-positioned to fill gaps through affordable legal plans and discounted legal services. The firm employs a rapid-response model to ensure clients are able to quickly get support to better understand their rights and obligations, and the guidance on how to pursue those matters, when needed. Having worked with pro bono clients for many years, I know how difficult and time-consuming certain matters can be without folks having to wait months on end before scheduling a preliminary appointment. And, many Ohioans are priced out of traditional firm models or are too distant from a qualified attorney to access necessary services. In times of need, MSH stands ready to support folks all over Ohio so they can move forward with their lives. I’m proud to be a part of advancing MSH’s mission.

What would you say is different about how MSH supports its clients?

Getting clients pointed in the right direction. Often, folks will have questions about whether they even have a right or obligation (e.g., “Is this even a legal issue?”). Having a consultation call with an actual attorney enables clients to quickly understand and identify their next steps, and MSH can even refer them to a network of qualified attorneys who are able to assist with the more complex or prolonged legal matters. This tiered approach to advocacy enables quick resolution, but also ensures clients are able to move forward with their lives rather than waiting several weeks before speaking with an attorney—or paying an arm and a leg for a simple letter or legal document.

What do you think makes MSH unique?

Empathy. I haven’t met a single person at MSH who doesn’t value and exude empathy in their daily interactions with colleagues, clients, and third parties. Empathy is critically important to carry out the meaningful work of providing Ohioans with access to justice. It’s not just a word used for marketing purposes; it’s a core value of the firm.
