If you give your personal credit or debit card to someone for a specific purchase and they use it for something else, you could be on the hook for thousands of dollars. According to MSH Associate Theodore Kelly, you are often required to notify your bank that the individual no longer has authority to use your card before the transactions will be considered “unauthorized.”
